The Return from the Blue - Canvas

Born in the red, in nests of eggs, salmon begin their journey in the quiet waters of creeks, streams, and lakes. From these northern tributaries of the Skeena, they battle their way to the coast, enduring countless trials before reaching the estuary at Lelu Island. In the ocean they grow strong, tempered by years at sea, until instinct pulls them back to the very waters of their birth. Few survive the return, fewer still lay their eggs but those who do carry forward a lifeblood as old as the river itself. This painting honours that struggle and triumph: the relentless fight to return home, the will to endure, and the unbreakable cycle of survival.
