About The Artist
Leah is a fourth-generation resident of the coastal mountains of northern British Columbia, in the small region known as the Hazeltons. Situated in the heart of Gitxsan territory along the Skeena River, her home and surroundings continue to shape and inspire her creative practice.
A professional artist and graphic designer, Leah's work reflects a deep connection to place, nature, and the intricate beauty of the North. She describes herself as having “the heart of a Raven,” curious, creative, and always drawn to beauty.
Though her subjects are often wild creatures, Leah considers herself a portrait painter rather than a wildlife artist. By removing many of the background elements traditionally found in wildlife art, she invites viewers to focus entirely on the individual before them. This intimate approach reveals the subtle details that capture the true spirit of each subject, from feathers and fur patterns to salmon tails and the stories found in the eyes.
Through her work, Leah encourages a deeper connection with the natural world. She believes that in observing wild things, we often discover something about ourselves. Nature offers wisdom in its own soulful way through the heart of a Raven, the courage of a Wolf, and the wisdom of an Eagle.
